If you can believe it, and I'm sure you can, Raimi's first instinct was to try and crawl under this branch. At the last moment he decided over was the more elegant and logical option.
A leap doesn't have to be over a body of water, it can simply be over a wide space like a ditch. Made more fun as an obstacle in a chase. I love the "I'm gonna get you!" expression in Leeloo's eyes. In life, as we all learn, the day will come when you have to make a leap of faith and trust that someone will be there to catch you. Or tackle you ... whichever. Archer demonstrating the streamlined version of jumping 'at speed'. It was a pretty wide span and since he is the most like Halo of any of the dogs, hitting the water was not an option. White Men Can't Jump
Leaping lizards these guys can jump. Given the amount of snow and melt occurring these days there is much in the way of jumping over watery obstacles. Sometimes jumping is not over or across it's just ... a jump. Leeloo was chewing on a tree branch when she suddenly had somewhere to be. This is a great moment but I wish I'd been closer so I could get a better photo. Leeloo chose one of the widest points at which to cross and so she put her crazy long legs to good use. As she leaped she seemed to realise that the gap was wider than she thought and instead of accepting the idea she might get a cold shower, she tucked, floated and stretched her way across. It was a marvel. You probably can't see it but Archer's tongue is sticking out ... apparently jumping takes extreme concentration. Raimi seemed to think jumping was for the birds so his leaping photos are minimal. The downward side isn't nearly so interesting but whatever goes up ...
