Driftwood

Yesterday we went to the beach for the first time in weeks. Since the Strait has frozen over I was very leery of taking the dogs anywhere near the beach for fear they'd make tracks for Prince Edward Island. Also, in the winter, if it's windy at the beach it is incredibly unpleasant. Yesterday was calm, clear and about 1 degree above zero so pretty much perfect. With many recalls and insistences that they not go racing over the verge and onto the ice we successfully landed on the beach. It's like sanding at the edge of a frozen world.Driftwood in high heat or icy depths is always interesting to stop and sniff. Fun in the sand and snow. Archer leaps past the gnarled driftwood tangle.
Raimi stopped to chew on a stray peice of wood frozen into the sand and snow.
I decided, at the end of the walk, to bring home one of the pieces of driftwood for them to chew on in the backyard. It was a large log and both boys decided to 'help' - that log is now covered in about 15cm of snow in the backyard. I have many many more photos of the beach adventure but they will have to wait until I sort them into storylines!
