After Karma and Leeloo were done giving Rory a lesson in who runs the dog park, Leeloo took a break to floss Rory's hair out of her teeth with a twig that was sticking out of the ground. 
Rory spotted her and thought what she was doing was totally fascinating. Or he thought he could subtly annoy her by inviting himself to her floss. 
She gave it a moment's thought and because Rory doesn't know Leeloo very well he didn't realize that Leeloo is the kinda gal who doesn't mind a usurper since she is one herself. 
And so one flossing stick became a flossing stick for two. Make love ... not war.
